New Jersey Racing Commission Approves Online Wagering – Sept 24th, 2004
The New Jersey Racing Commission has approved an account wagering application proposed by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, which could see legal online wagering in the State by the middle of next month.
The Commission gave the green light to the project at its agenda meeting on Thursday at Monmouth Park, which would see the beginning of off-track Internet betting.
According to the Thoroughbred Times, there is still the chance that state Attorney General Peter Harvey may choose to override the decision.
An approval or a ‘no action’ by Harvey will give the sports authority a license to conduct both online and telephone account wagering. Bettors would then be able to wager on racing via a Scientific Games Platform.
The computer wagering system is expected to go live by mid-October and the telephone account version the following month. New Jersey punters will also be able to video streaming video via the internet.
