Sands to Invest in Super Casino at Old Trafford – May 22nd, 2005
US gaming giant Las Vegas Sands will invest about $400 million in its proposed casino project with English football club Manchester United Plc , the casino operator’s president said on Thursday.
Manchester United – the world’s richest football club – has applied for a casino license for a resort to be built near its Old Trafford Stadium.
“Rooms, a spa, restaurants, a sports bar, a sports betting shop — it will be a lifestyle centre themed around Manchester United,” Las Vegas Sands President and Chief Operating Officer William Weidner told Reuters in an interview.
Las Vegas Sands, which is also vying to build a $2-2.5 billion casino in Singapore, will pay for the entire cost of the UK project. Also in the running to host a Super Casino is Blackpool, the seaside resort in the North West of England.
This ties in with the general consensus of opinion on our Online Casino Forum here on OCR. Since Malcolm Glazer took a 75% controlling interest in the Manchester English Football Giants, there has been speculation that the Glazer family will use the new relaxed gambling laws in the UK to facilitate a Super Casino as part of the Old Trafford Complex.
