SunPoker’s $50,000 Downtime Tourney – February 9th, 2005

SunPoker.com seems to be backing its claim to top efficiency with cold, hard cash. The company upgraded its poker room software and services recently, and is guaranteeing 99.8 percent Up-Time on its poker servers with a $50,000 Overlay Tournament.

If the site is offline for longer than 1.5 hours in any month, the tournament guarantee is activated. “Our poker room now boasts increased capacity, access speeds, and near 100 percent availability,” says a confident manager, Nick Melrose.

“In January, we experienced explosive growth in SunPoker.com, and we’re now the fourth largest poker room network on the Internet. Such quick growth sometimes leaves room for outages due to server upgrades for increased capacity, and on the off chance there is more than 1.5 hours of downtime in any given month, we’re guaranteeing a $50,000 overlay tournament on the first Sunday of the following month.”

Unfortunately for Melrose, an outage did happen in January, and Sun Poker will therefore be honoring its commitment by hosting the first ‘$50,000 DOWNTIME’ tournament this Sunday February 6th, at 12:00 PM (noon) EST. Registration is limited to 1000 players and begins two hours before the start of the tournament.

An overlay tournament means that in addition to the prize pool derived from the $20 + $2 entry fee, the poker room will add the $50,000 of it’s own money to the prize pool.
