Swedish Ace wins Danish Prize – February 23rd, 2010

Casino NewsIt took 22-year-old Anton Wigg of Sweden a tough four hours to beat his final opponent in the heads up of the PokerStars.com EPT Copenhagen in Denmark this week, but it was worth the effort….he took home Euro 494 000, a seat in the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo and the respect of 422 other players who entered the tourney.

Wigg’s heads up battle with runner up Francesco de Vivo of Italy was the culmination of an entertaining and successful tournament, and his first ever cash in an EPT event.

His previous major win was for Euro 55 000 in the European Masters in Barcelona (see previous InfoPowa report). Wigg won his seat in the Copenhagen tournament in a $500 buy-in Pokerstars online satellite.

Among the star studded entry field were Bertrand Grospellier and former World Series of Poker champion Peter Eastgate, along with the headline grabbing Morten Guldhammer, an erratic but exciting auto mechanic from Denmark who won his EPT seat in a $1 PokerStars competition arranged by local newspaper Ekstra Bladet.

Guldhammer’s return on investment was extraordinary, as he finished well in the money and took home over Euro 57 000. Total prize-pool for the event, held at the Casino Copenhagen, almost reached $2 million.
