Poker Guide – Poker Room Reviews, Poker Strategy and Poker Articles

Poker GuideWelcome to the Poker Guide here on EasyPlay.Vegas. Whilst the aim of EasyPlay.Vegas is to be primarily focused on online casinos, I realise that many of the visitors to OCR also like to play poker online.

My own personal experience regarding online poker goes back over 10 years, when whilst working as the IT Manager for Ladbrokes in Gibraltar, I helped set up the infrastructure for Ladbrokes’ very own online poker room in 2002.

On the pages contained within the OCR Poker Guide are reviews of those online poker rooms I personally recommend, poker strategy and poker glossary information and articles written by Poker Professional Dave Tarbet.

Dave used to write for EasyPlay.Vegas back in 2006 and 2007 and whilst the articles are several years old now, they are still a good read and relevant today.

Poker Room Reviews

Listed at the directly underneath are those online poker rooms which I currently recommend. All of the poker rooms which are featured provide players with good liquidity in terms of number of players active and a great variety of different poker games to choose from.

In addition all the poker rooms which are reviewed and recommended also feature tables for all players, inclusive of no limit and limit games to choose from. If you like partaking in tournaments you will also be pleased that all the poker rooms listed run numerous tournaments throughout the day, 7 days a week.

Poker Guide and Strategy Articles

Below you will find our poker Poker Guide and Strategy Articles. These give a good insight to the  game of poker for the beginner and intermediate player, providing you with the information required to play poker online.

I sincerely hope you find them of use, should you decide to join any of the poker rooms which we have recommended on this page.

Texas Holdem Poker

Texas Holdem PokerSo you’re new to Texas HoldEm Poker? Not a problem. Texas Holdem Poker is by far the best game for a beginner to learn.

Instead of other poker games like Omaha High or 7 card stud which entail a great many more possibilities for calculating odds and perhaps even trying to count cards.

HoldEm can be learned in a few minutes by anyone, and you can be playing fairly well with a few hours practice.  In order to learn the game, however, you must play and you must play fairly often.

It’s difficult to learn to play Texas HoldEm in the traditional setting of a casino’s poker room without losing to experienced gamblers. Thankfully, you can practice all you want for free with online poker rooms.

Also it is probably worth trying out the low stakes tables when you do eventually take the plunge and play for real money.

Omaha Poker

Omaha PokerOmaha Poker follows the same play sequence as Texas Hold’em Poker, but with two differences: a) players are dealt four “pocket” cards instead of two; and b) players must use two “pocket” cards and three “community” cards to make your best high hand. (If anyone tells you that Omaha is just like Hold’em, they are not discussing strategy).

Hi/Low Omaha plays the same as regular Omaha, except that there is an additional way to win a share of the pot.

As in a regular game of Omaha, the Hi winner has the best poker hand. There is always a Hi winner. But, in addition to a Hi winner, there can be a Low winner.

The Low winner has 5 different cards below a 9. For example, if between your two pocket and three community cards, you had a hand consisting of a 2, 3, 5, 7 and 8 of mixed suits, you would have a Low hand.

If your qualifying Low hand is the best (i.e. lowest) you would be entitled to the Low share of the pot. Your share depends on how many other players won and there may not be a Low winner every hand. You may play 2 different or the same pocket cards for Hi and for Low, along with any three community cards.

Dave Tarbet – OCR’s Resident Poker Professional

Dave TarbetBack in 2006, I approached poker professional Dave Tarbet to write on a regular basis for EasyPlay.Vegas, to provide an insight into the game of poker and specifically playing poker online.

I had the pleasure of working with Dave, when we were both employed by Ladbrokes in Gibraltar during the course of 2004, where Dave was responsible for the management of the Ladbrokes Poker site.

Dave’s land based tournament results include a credible 32nd place in the 2005 Aussie Millions and his best performance arguably being a 1st place at the Spring Tournament in Paris back in 2003.

Dave’s work within the Poker industry includes consultancy for some of the leading online poker rooms.  Indeed, Dave was instrumental in establishing the inaugural Ladbrokes Poker Cruise tournament.

Further to this Dave Tarbet has also worked as a poker tournament director and organiser. As well as working for land based casinos.  Whilst the articles below are now several years old, they are still relevant today and well worth a read.
