To be awarded the Bonus Round, you are required to hit three or more scatter symbols in a single spin of the reels. The scatter symbol in keeping with the underwater theme is in the form of an open clam shell.

Once the bonus round has been awarded you are then shown an underwater scene with five closed clam shells. You then have to pick two clams to open. Upon opening the clam shells you are either awarded additional spins or/and additional bet multipliers.

In short up to 33 free spins with a mammoth 10 x ( ten times bet stake ) multiplier can be awarded. In all my time playing Great Blue over the past several years, on average I receive approx 20 free spins with a bet multiplier averaging at 7 x. Now you can see why Great Blue has the potential to pay out big. Higher bet multipliers up to 15x can be awarded in the bonus round, but the number of free spins awarded is less than 20.

You are probably now getting somewhat of an inkling as to how and why Great Blue can award payouts of over 100x. It is all about the bonus round. I have personally had some superb wins playing Great Blue, but be warned. Great Blue is a highly volatile and high variance slot, you can go what seems like an eternity before hitting three or more clam scatters and thus activating the bonus round.
